Officials deny rise in crime on trains
LUCKNOW: This is a summary of incidents related to crimes in trains in the last ten days only. It does not include all those cases which go unnoticed or where the victim was in a state of shock so that he/she cannot sum up the courage to report the matter to the GRP or RPF.
It is noteworthy here that the female who was gang-raped in Pushpak (witnessed by her co-passengers) withdrew her complaint at Jhansi GRP police station.

Even railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav made a statement declaring that the women was not raped.
Significantly, in a recent press conference held in the state capital, ADG Railways, BK Bhalla tried to explain, quoting statistics, that rail-related crimes have gone down significantly over the years.
"Barring the incidents of rape and abduction which increased a bit, others including poisoning, dacoity, murder, theft of railway property etc. have gone down significantly.
In the year 2001 we recorded a total of 3,858 rail-related crimes which fell down to 1607 in 2005," he claimed. If ten days of rail travel paint such a horrific picture, one can only wish best luck and not rely on GRP or RPF for reaching the destination safely.
